Tropical Dirty Soda

If sunshine had a flavor, this drink would be it. The Copycat Swig Waikiki is a tropical twist on the classic dirty soda, blending fizzy Coke with creamy coconut and sweet pineapple. Originally made popular by Swig (yes, the drive-thru soda shop with cult-like status in Utah), this version is pure vacation-in-a-cup vibes.

It’s ready in five minutes, refreshing, and the kind of drink that makes you feel like you’re sipping on something special, even if you’re just in your kitchen. Whether making it for an afternoon pick-me-up or serving it at a summer get-together, this easy soda concoction is here to impress.

Ingredients and Simple Substitutions

  • 12 oz can of Coke – The base of the drink. You can use regular, Diet, or even Coke Zero depending on your taste. The caramel notes of Coke pair beautifully with the tropical flavors. You could also use Pepsi or even Dr. Pepper.
  • 4 cups pebble ice – Swig fans know—pebble ice is part of the magic. It cools the drink fast and gives that classic soda shop feel. If you don’t have pebble ice, crush regular ice in a zip-top bag with a rolling pin or use your blender’s ice crush setting.
  • 2 tablespoons pineapple syrup – This adds a sweet, fruity zing. Look for it in the coffee syrup section (Torani or Monin are great brands). You can substitute it with pineapple juice, but the flavor will be lighter.
  • 2 tablespoons coconut cream – Rich and dreamy. Coconut cream gives the drink a silky texture and that signature tropical taste. You can find it in the cocktail or international foods aisle. You can use coconut cream or cream of coconut (like Coco Lopez or Coco Real).
  • Pineapple slices (for garnish) – Totally optional, but a cute touch that makes the drink feel extra fun and festive.

  1. Fill two 16-ounce glasses with 2 cups of pebble ice each.
  2. Pour half the can of Coke into each glass (about 6 ounces per glass).
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of pineapple syrup to each glass and give it a quick stir.

Recipe Tips

Pebble Ice Hack: No pebble ice? No problem! Just crush regular ice in a blender or wrap it in a towel and give it a few gentle hits with a rolling pin.

Make Ahead: This drink is best enjoyed fresh. Mix the syrup and cream and chill if you want to prep it a few hours ahead. Wait to add the Coke and ice until serving to keep it fizzy and refreshing.

Stir well before serving. Coconut cream can sometimes settle, so a good mix ensures every sip is creamy and flavorful.

Chill your Coke first. This helps keep the drink colder longer and reduces ice melt.
