These Baked Ham and Cheese Croissants are my favorite for a leisurely brunch, lunch, or easy dinner. They are baked perfectly with melty cheese, savory ham, and a buttery glaze everyone loves.

I make these Ham and Cheese Croissants when I need a comforting meal without spending hours in the kitchen. I’ve made them for every kind of event, from slow weekend mornings to busy weeknights to holiday gatherings, and they are always a hit. Make them once, and the buttery croissants, melty cheese and ham, and savory poppyseed topping will hook you, too!
Ingredients
Here’s everything you need to make these baked ham and cheese croissants, including substitutions.
- Croissants (6 total) – Flaky, rich, and indulgent—the perfect bread for this sandwich. Use Brioche buns or Hawaiian rolls if needed.
- Deli Ham (18 slices) – You’ll layer this generously. Go for honey ham, smoked, or black forest—whatever you love. Turkey works too.
- Swiss Cheese (6 slices) – Nutty and melty, Swiss cheese pairs well with ham. You can use provolone, Havarti, or even sharp cheddar instead.
- Salted Butter (5 Tbsp, melted) – Adds richness and helps crisp the croissant tops.
- Dijon Mustard (1 Tbsp) – Tangy and sharp, this balances the richness. Yellow mustard works in a pinch or whole grain for extra texture.
- Poppy Seeds (2½ tsp) – It’s a classic topping and adds a subtle crunch. It can be optional if you don’t have them on hand.
- Worcestershire Sauce (2 tsp) – Adds depth and umami—don’t skip it! Soy sauce or a dash of balsamic can be used in a pinch.
- Onion Powder (¼ tsp) – Adds a savory boost without overpowering. Garlic powder could be swapped in for a slightly different vibe.

How To Make Baked Ham and Cheese Croissants
Layer your croissants with ham and cheese, pour on a flavorful butter topping, and bake until golden and melty. That’s it! Let me show you how:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9 by 13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
- Slice croissants in half. Lay the bottoms in the prepared dish.
- Layer with 2 slices of ham, 1 slice of Swiss, and 1 more slice of ham.

- Top with the croissant tops.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon, poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder.
- Brush the mixture evenly over the croissants. Let it sit for 5 minutes so that buttery goodness soaks in.

- Cover with foil and bake for 18 minutes.
- Uncover and bake another 5–6 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve hot and melty straight from the oven.

Essential Recipe Tips
Let the butter topping soak in for 5 minutes before baking—this helps the flavor seep into the croissants.
Use a serrated knife when cutting the croissants in half to keep their shape intact.
Cover first, then uncover while baking to get that gooey center and crispy top.

Baked Ham and Cheese Croissants Recipe FAQs
Absolutely. Prepare the sliders, cover them in foil, and refrigerate them overnight. Then, you can bake them in the oven the next day.
I love how the mildly salty flavor of Swiss cheese complements the ham. However, you can use another type of cheese, such as provolone, mozzarella, or cheddar, and still have a delicious sandwich.
I recommend using thinly sliced Deli ham for the best results. Another great option is leftover baked ham.
You can freeze these croissants after preparing them before baking them. Wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and a layer of foil and freeze them for up to three months. When ready to bake them, defrost the croissants first and then bake as directed.
