Refreshing Cherry Limeade You Can Make at Home

Cherry Limeade from Sonic is a classic drive-thru favorite anytime of the year. The fresh lime and signature pebble ice in the drink is perfect for cooling down on a hot afternoon or sipping on during any gathering. The nostalgic drink brings a fizzy, fruity goodness to your kitchen, so you can skip the drive-thru!

Ingredients

This recipe calls for just four simple ingredients, and there are a few easy swaps you can make if needed.

  • 4 cups of pebble ice – This gives the drink a crunchy texture and keeps it extremely cold. Crushed ice will work in a pinch if you do not have any pebble ice.
  • 1 can of Sprite – Adds fizz and a citrus sweetness to the drink. Any lemon-lime soda will work. You can also use Sprite Zero Sugar for a copycat Sonic diet cherry limeade.
  • ½  lime – The lime balances the sweetness of the other flavors. Use bottled lime juice as an alternative, but fresh is best.
  • 8 Tablespoons grenadine – Gives the drink its signature bright red color and delicious cherry flavor. You can use cherry syrup as a substitute.

How To Make Sonic Cherry Limeade

Fill each glass with ice, add Sprite, lime juice, and grenadine. Stir, garnish, and serve chilled.

  1. Add 1 cup of crushed or pebble ice to each 16-ounce glass.
  2. Pour in half of a can of Sprite (about 6 ounces per glass).
  3. Squeeze half of a lime into each glass for that bright citrus flavor.
Ice, Sprite, and lime juice added to clear glasses.
  4. Pour in 4 tablespoons of grenadine.
  5. Give each glass a gentle stir.
  6. Top with a maraschino cherry and a lime wedge if desired.
Grenadine added to the glasses of Sprite and lime juice, mixed, garnished, and ready to drink.

Recipe Tip

Pebble Ice Hack: This drink is best with pebble ice, but don’t worry if you don’t have any on hand. You can quickly make your own by pulsing regular ice in a blender.

Chill your Sprite: This helps the drink stay colder for longer and slows down ice melt, giving you the ultimate refreshing sip every time.

Sonic Cherry Limeade Recipe FAQs

Is there a way to make this drink less sweet?

Try adding a little more lime juice or a little less grenadine to cut back the sweetness.

What is grenadine, and where do I find it?

Grenadine is a sweet red syrup with a cherry-pomegranate flavor. You can find it in the cocktail mixer section of most grocery stores. Make sure you don’t grab grenadine with alcohol in it.

Is there a sugar-free version?

Try using diet lemon-lime soda and a sugar-free grenadine (like the ones from Torani or Skinny Syrups).

Can I make a pitcher instead of individual glasses?

Yes, scale everything up and combine it right before serving to keep the soda bubbly. For a standard pitcher, multiply the recipe by four.
