DIY Sonic Slushies with Endless Flavor Combos

If you’ve had a Sonic slush on a hot summer day, you know nothing beats it. It’s a sweet treat you can customize with your favorite flavor add-ins and garnishes. This drink is a simple way to beat the heat without leaving the comfort of your kitchen. It’s summer in a cup!

When you’re craving a colorful treat that will bring the drive-in vibes to your kitchen and make your kids super happy, this copycat slush recipe is a must-try.

Ingredients

You only need a few ingredients to make this slush recipe.

  • 2 cups club soda OR sparkling water – Adds fizz to the slush. You can use seltzer water as an alternative.
  • 4 cups ice – Gives the slush its classic texture and makes it super cold. This recipe will not work without the ice.
  • ½ cup granulated sugar – Sweetens the slush.
  • 1 packet of Kool-Aid drink mix – Adds the main flavor and a fun bright color to the slush. Try another powdered drink mix such as Crystal light as an alternative.
  • 1 Tablespoon fruit syrup (optional) – Give the slush a fruity boost to complement the Kool-Aid flavor.

How To Make A Sonic Slush

Blend club soda, ice, sugar, and Kool-Aid until slushy. Add mix-ins for fun flavors and finish with garnishes. It’s so easy to make, let me show you how:

  1. Add everything to the blender: Combine the sparkling water, ice, sugar, and Kool-Aid mix in a high-speed blender. If using syrup mix-ins, add them now, too.
  2. Blend until slushy: Start on low and increase to high. Blend until the texture looks slushy. Timing will depend on your blender, but it usually takes about 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Garnish and serve: Pour into cups right away. Top with cherries, wedges of lemon or lime, or fresh berries (all optional). Slushies are best enjoyed fresh when the texture is perfect and frosty.

Sonic Slush Recipe FAQs

Can I use still water instead of sparkling water?

Sure, but you will not have the same fizzy taste.

What kind of Kool-Aid should I use?

Any kind you want! My favorites include cherry, grape, and blue raspberry.

What if I don’t have flavored syrups?

The syrups add an added depth of flavor, but you can still have a yummy treat without adding the syrups.
