Sonic Chili Cheese Tots

These Sonic-style chili cheese tots are comfort food at its best. The crispy tater tots are piled high with cheese sauce and hearty chili that hit the spot every time.

Ingredients

  • 20 ounces of tater tots
  • Sonic Chili Recipe
  • 1 can of cheddar cheese sauce
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • ¼ cup white onion diced

GARNISHES:

  • Sliced jalapenos
  • White onion diced

Instructions

  • Make the sonic chili recipe.
  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees and grease a baking sheet.
  • Place the tater tots on the sheet pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • While the tater tots are baking, add the cheddar cheese sauce to a small saucepan and heat on medium-high for about 5-8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Assemble the chili cheese tots by adding about 10-12 tots to the bottom, then top with about ⅓ cup of cheese sauce, followed by ½ cup of the chili mixture, a white onion, and finally, top with 2 Tablespoons of cheddar cheese.
  • Garnish with the white onion and sliced jalapeños.

Notes

Here are some tips on how to store the chili cheese tater tots and how to make them ahead of time. 
Fridge: Store leftover chili and cheese sauce separately for up to 4 days.
Freezer: Tots can be baked ahead and frozen once cooled. Reheat in the oven or air fryer.
Reheat: Reassemble fresh for the best texture. Chili and cheese sauce reheat well on the stovetop or in the microwave.
Make-Ahead: The chili can be made 1 to 2 days in advance. Keep the tots freshly baked for that crisp bite.
